Richard Halliday offers ‘fresh ideas, good judgement.’

Campaign Statement

My primary goal is the Waikanae Ward seat.
If elected, I desire to serve the community;
to be a positive pro-active influence;
I will endeavour to be a catalyst for constructive discussion;
to bring new ideas, and good judgement,
and bring about good outcomes for Waikanae and Kāpiti;
I will be circumspect, impartial, realistic, and sensible in my approach.

I have lived in Waikanae for 15 years. I’m from Christchurch with un-fluoridated, untreated artesian water! I have a science degree and diploma of teaching, had various occupations, the most important being a parent.
The Expressway is a complex issue. I will support Council’s position according to its Sandhills Expressway Project Objectives. This will have much less overall impact than the Eastern or upgrading SH1 options would.
I will lobby for an Underpass at Te Moana Road. This is needed ahead of the Expressway because with the soon coming trains the ensuing congestion could be a problem of local, regional, even national significance!
Water supply: I favour a dam as the simplest, surest and securest means of supply.
Water management: keep it in Council’s hands, and no water meters.
Rates are projected to increase by 42.03% over the next three years. This is too high and needs addressing.

Mr Halliday is also a candidate for the Waikanae Community Board
