Second meeting on spraying in Queen Elizabeth Park to go ahead

A second public meeting on the issue of spraying for weed control in Queen Elizabeth Park will be held in Raumati South on Wednesday 9 December.

It will follow an initial public meeting on 14 November at which councillors and officials of Greater Wellington Regional Council listened to the concerns of members of the Kāpiti Coast community both about spraying in the park on Labour Day and more generally as a weed control practice in the park.

The regional council registered concerns and issues at the meeting and undertook to respond to the community with detailed answers and commentary which will, along with a revised spray protocol and future opportunities for community involvement be the subject of the second meeting. An apology was also given by the regional council expressing regret at the timing of the spraying operation on Labour Day.

“We want to work with the community on the issue of weed control spraying in the park. We acknowlege its concerns and will provide a detailed response to them. We will have a full and frank conversation and look for ways in which we can evolve our practices to address community concerns,” says Greater Wellington Regional Council Parks Manager, Amanda Cox.

Greater Wellington Regional Council’s written response to the issues and concerns raised by the community will be posted on its website by 4 December.
