The house fire in Waikanae yesterday was bought under control by the superb local fire service. However the house is left in a parlous state for the owners.
The charred remains of the two-storey home will be sealed by builders who will secure the site.
Police and Fire Service personnel were at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze.
The sounds of mild explosions heard by many at the scene throughout the blaze are thought to have come from electrical switchboards.

The house in Mohua St, Waikanae was well ablaze when firefighters arrived on the scene just after 3pm yesterday.
Eyewitnesses told KCNews reporters at the scene that the couple who live in the house were both safe and outside but understandably distraught.
In all, five fire appliances attended the blaze along with several police cars. Traffic in the area of Winara Ave was affected for some time.
Mohua St runs between Winara Avenue and Kea St. The fire service were keen to control the blaze as well as stopping the spread to neighbouring properties.
