Kapiti Tattoo & Arts Festival Thrives as a Cultural and Economic Highlight on the Coast

The Kāpiti Tattoo & Arts Festival has firmly established itself as an annual major event on the Kāpiti Coast, drawing thousands of art and tattoo enthusiasts from across the region and beyond.

Celebrating creativity, artistry, and community, this annual festival continues to position Kāpiti as a vibrant destination for creativity, tourism and local economic growth.

Organisers say the festival attracted a diverse audience, with attendees ranging from 18 to 84 years old and a strong representation of women (74%), highlighting the broad appeal of tattoo and arts culture. Guests travelled from across the Kāpiti and Wellington region and farther afield, including Manawatu, Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, and Christchurch, emphasising the festival’s reach beyond the local community.

“Attendance and engagement were impressive. Social media campaigns delivered over 222,000 impressions, while strategically placed billboards reached an estimated 11,000 people across the Wellington region and Kāpiti. Event listings generated nearly 27,000 views, underlining widespread interest in the festival. On average, each attendee purchased more than four tickets, demonstrating both enthusiasm and commitment to the experience.

“The festival offered a dynamic program, including live tattooing, art sales, retail stalls, performances, and family-friendly activities. Attendees spent an average of $123 each on-site, with nearly half reporting additional spending across Kāpiti, contributing to an estimated $44 per person in wider local economic activity. Many exhibitors reported an positive turnover, reflecting strong support for local creatives and businesses.

“Feedback from attendees underscores the festival’s value. Over 80% of respondents indicated they would “definitely” return next year, and ticket buyers consistently rated the event as excellent value.”
