New book from Kapiti Writer Caz Bartholomew

Kāpiti writer Caz Bartholomew has a new book out in June – The Tramp to the Blue Range Hut – which is an exciting pick-a-path adventure story for young people, designed to encourage safety when tramping in the bush.

The Tramp to the Blue Range Hut is set in the NZ bush. When friends James and Mark go tramping in fine weather, they set off late in the day. James has left his raincoat behind, and neither of them has checked the forecast before they set off. It will be up to the reader to make some decisions and decide their fate.
This is an educational pick-a-path designed with educational outcomes. It is perfect for 10-14-year-olds and was written with the support of New Zealand Land Search and Rescue.

About the Author

Caz Bartholomew grew up in Tawa, Wellington, and
spent her summers in rural Northland where her
extended family live. Always interested in sports, she went on to complete her degree in Physical Education at Otago University. She met her match while tramping in the Tararua Ranges and now lives in Kāpiti with her family including two teenagers and dogs boosting around the house. Caz loves travelling and going on missions in the great outdoors.
As a trained secondary school teacher, she wrote this book from an educational perspective.
The first draft was literally written in an old 1B5 exercise book over one long weekend. Her hand was pretty sore by the end of it; thanks to her pencil grip, a dent in her finger was visible for a couple of weeks after that! It all got pretty complicated in typing it out, because as it was edited, it threw all the pages out of sync. Thanks to her editor Kate Lattey, it all came together. They collaborated with Garry Fox who came up with some great illustrations, and with amazing support from Precise Print in Paraparaumu, we now have this entertaining pick-a-path that young people can enjoy and learn from.
Caz loves to be creative in her spare time; she sings and plays in an original jazz-infused band.
