Police can now confirm the name of the person who died while diving near Mana Island, Porirua, on 5 March.
He was Shengwei Cao, 58, of Lower Hutt.
Emergency services were called about 3.05pm, after Mr Cao failed to surface. He was unable to be revived.
Police extend condolences to Shengwei’s family and friends at this difficult time.
His death has been referred to the Coroner.
