Films for Young People at Maoriland Film Festival

Young people sit at the heart of everything done at Māoriland – if you’ve attended the festival before, you will have seen them presenting films and if you’re an Ōtaki local, you may have seen them out on the street shooting films.
Two years ago a handful of these rangatahi – young people – asked if they could have their own programme within the festival. They wanted an opportunity to select, curate and present films that spoke to them and their peers. So the Māoriland Rangatahi Film Festival was born.
Māoriland Rangatahi Film Festival presents Indigenous films from around the globe for school students in years 5 to 13. This year, the MRFF includes six programmes of short films including two programmes entirely made by youth filmmakers! These films will entertain, challenge and inspire – and they were entirely selected by Ngā Pakiaka!
Ngā Pakiaka is now made up of young Māori filmmakers aged 14 – 24 from across Aotearoa.
