Kāpiti Growth Projects Talk Time

The Council, with support from the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), will shortly begin public discussions about opportunities for supporting our district’s economic growth in partnership with central government.
“We’ve had some early discussions with the government about accessing support from the Provincial Growth Fund a government fund which aims to lift productivity in the provinces to support major projects in our district,” says Kāpiti Coast District Mayor, K Gurunathan.
“We can now confirm that Kāpiti is eligible to make applications to the Fund, and the next step is to start having conversations about how to make the most of the opportunity.”
Mayor Gurunathan says the discussions will kick off with a public meeting at the end of October, jointly hosted by the Council and officials from MBIE.
“I’d encourage everyone to come along and talk about how we iwi, communities, businesses, central government and the Council can shape our district’s future.
“This is a unique opportunity for Kāpiti, a chance for the community to join forces with central government and look at how we can further develop the district.”
The Provincial Growth Fund is open to a wide range of entities, including central and local government, State Owned Enterprises, Māori organisations, iwi and related authorities, and commercial enterprises and philanthropists. Its priorities are to enhance regional economic development opportunities, create sustainable jobs, enable Māori to reach full potential, boost social inclusion and participation, build resilient communities, and help meet New Zealand’s climate change targets.
