Nominations call for Kāpiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards

Nominations are open for the 2018 PAK’n SAVE Kāpiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards organised by the Lions Club of Kāpiti Charitable Trust.
Andrew Laing from the Lions Club of Kāpiti says if you know someone who has excelled in sport over the past year and deserves to be recognised for their achievements then now is the time to nominate them for the 2018 Kāpiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
This years Awards function is on Thursday 24th May at Southwards commencing at 6.30pm.
Mr Laing says sport is such a great agent for building health, fitness, character and local pride in both individuals and teams, but prior to 2005 there was little formal recognition available to the many worthy Kāpiti sportspeople in the district.
So the Lions Club of Kāpiti instituted the Sportsperson of the Year Awards (SPOY) to fill that gap and the Awards have become a fantastic event celebrating sporting excellence on the Kāpiti Coast.
Alongside the awards The Lions Club of Kāpiti offers an annual grant of up to $1000.00 to assist young athletes between the ages of 14 and 20 who are actively participating in sport, to assist them to develop their skills and attain their sporting goals.
