Police chase through Kāpiti ends with tyres spiked in Levin

A Dukes of Hazard style police chase from Wainuiomata, through Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki has just ended with the ramming of a Police car in Levin.

The 100km pursuit of two teenagers driving a stolen silver Holden 4X4 began when the driver did not stop for flashing lights.

A police spokeswoman says the car was reported driving southbound in a northbound lane near Hebden Cr in Hutt City at about 7.45pm on Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle reported stolen from Wainuiomata then refused to stop for red and blue flashing lights.

The driver fled north along the winding State Highway 58, the Haywards Hill Rd route between Hutt and SH1 in Porirua City.

The pursuit continued to the Kāpiti Coast, heading north along the Kāpiti expressway, through Waikanae, and Ōtaki, before entering Horowhenua and Levin.

The Police spokeswoman says the vehicle was spiked by police, and eventually, with its rims breaking apart, swerved into a patrol car at low speed in northern Levin at about 8.50pm.

The two male teenage occupants, and police were uninjured.
