Queen Elizabeth Park Cycle Trail to Open

On Saturday, January 23, 2016at 10 AM – 2 PM the new Queen Elizabeth Park Cycle and Walking Trail (Te Ara o Whareroa) between Paekākāariki and Raumati South will be officially opened in a ceremony at the Mackays Crossing entrance to the Park.

Following the formalities, there will a chance to enjoy food, music and activities for the family.

What to bring: Warm clothes, good shoes and a wind breaker, a bike to join the parade.

General parking will be in the paddock behind the Ranger’s office. Please allow 20 minutes to catch a tram, walk or cycle to the event.

Tramways will be doing a great deal for the opening. For a gold coin donation per person per trip you can catch the tram down to the event. A great saving for families who don’t want to walk or cycle down to the beach.

Entertainment:
Do you manage a food stall? Or are you a talented face-painter or entertainer? If so, we want you!
We’re putting the call out to all vendors, retailers and entertainers in the Wellington region to join us and be part of the Te Ara o Whareroa Trail official opening.
If you, or anyone you know is interested in being part of the event, please contact [email protected] or phone 04 830 4041.

The northern part of the Te Ara o Whareroa Trail between Whareroa Road and Rainbow Court is already open to the public. Keen cyclists have already begun testing it out.
Construction is still taking place throughout some parts of the trail until the official opening on 23 January 2016. Until then please keep an eye out for any contractors and machinery south of Whareroa Road.
The Te Ara o Whareroa cycling and walking trail is something truly special and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the open day!
