The Alliance for a Sustainable Kāpiti today welcomed the arrival of the New Zealand Transport Agency stall in the Coastlands Mall.
“For too long since the proposal for a motorway was made, the agency has hidden in Wellington, refusing to give out details of their absurd ideas,” spokesman Nick Fisher said.
“Perhaps now, they will realise the extent of public opposition to the proposed route, and be forced to acknowledge the severe adverse affects to the community.”
ASK encourages everyone to attend the booth and see the lack of progress that has been made. When asked for the latest maps of the route, as advertised in a double page display in the local paper, ASK was referred to the original inaccurate 2009 sketches.
“Very little progress is apparent, with conflicting estimates of finishing dates, and no work done to date on assessing the adverse affects. It is very sad that the Council’s and Transit’s plans, which would have already been started, have bulldozed to the side, while the NZTA expect the community to roll over for Minister Joyce’s entertainment,” Mr Fisher said.
He emphasises that it is not too late to change the government’s mind, especially as a cheaper and quicker option with a lower environmental impact is still ready to go.
