Former Kāpiti Mayor Alan Milne has been appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Mr Milne, who was Kāpiti Mayor from 2001-07, has been actively involved in the community for 40 years. He currently serves on the International Board of the Friendship Force and was a founding member of the Kāpiti Coast Friendship Force.
Mr Milne also played a key role in the establishment of what is now Nature Coast.
“I have been out of the public limelight for three years now so this came as a very pleasant surprise and I appreciate the honour,” said Mr Milne.
“Everything I have been involved in has been part of a team. No one can achieve much by themselves and I have been fortunate to be part of some great groups of people.”
Mr Milne remains actively involved in the community and is part of the Aquatic Centre Trust, the Lions Club of Kāpiti, and the Friendship Force.
