Council to defend ownership of land earmarked for town centre

On December 17 last year the Kāpiti Coast District Council made the decision to defend a claim by the Ngahina Trust for the land to the south and west of the Council building off Rimu Road ear-marked for “town centre” development.
“The land in question was purchased by the Kāpiti Borough Council at market prices in the 1980s.
“Council strongly believes it has no obligation to offer the land back to its former owners. As the matter is in dispute before the High Court, the issue is now sub judice and we will be making no further public comment,” said Council Chief Executive Pat Dougherty.
The issue is set down for hearing for the week commencing May 10.
