A different kind of wedding is quietly gaining momentum — and it will be on show at the upcoming Kāpiti Wedding Expo.
The Expo is on Sunday 19 April, 10:00am – 3:00pm at the Paraparaumu Memorial Hall, Paraparaumu.
One exhibitor – Ever After Elopements, a newly introduced offering at The Milk Station in Ōtaki, is presenting a simple but compelling idea: what if a wedding didn’t need to be large, complex, or months in the making to be meaningful?
Hosted at the historic chapel at The Milk Station, Ever After Elopements offers all-inclusive, intimate weddings for two, or a very small number of guests. The experience includes the ceremony, photography, flowers, an overnight stay and glorious food — all arranged so couples can simply arrive, marry and celebrate.
Founder Margôt de Cotesworth says the concept reflects a shift she is seeing more frequently.
“Many couples are time-poor, very private, or entering a second marriage. They’re not looking for a large event. They want something calm, considered and complete — without the stress that often comes with a traditional wedding.”
Margot says the idea also raises a question many couples may not have considered.
“Most people set a budget for their wedding and spend it on a single day,” she says. “We’re inviting couples to think differently. A smaller wedding can allow for a far more expansive honeymoon — and a much more relaxed beginning.”
The Kāpiti Coast, with its proximity to Wellington is increasingly well positioned for this style of celebration.
The Kāpiti Wedding Expo, held at the Paraparaumu Memorial Hall on Sunday 19 April from 10am to 3pm, will bring together a range of local wedding providers. Ever After Elopements will be among the exhibitors, offering visitors a chance to explore a more intimate approach to getting married.
Margo says visitors to the stand will be invited to consider a simple question: “could a micro-wedding be for you?”
