Labour leader Chris Hipkins and local candidate Sophie Handford made the most of great weather in their Kāpiti walkabout on Wednesday which included visiting local businesses in Paraparaumu, Paekākāriki, and an informal meet and greet of locals in Mahara Place, Waikanae.
With the polls closing at 7pm this Saturday night (November 7), the visit was a timely reminder to those who have not yet voted to do so.
Handford says she was greatly encouraged by the reception and feedback from the public who they interacted with. She says for party leader Hipkins, whose parents live in Kāpiti, it is always special to come here.
“It was great to see how positive people are and there does seem to be a strong appetite for change,” says Handford.
Ms Handford is looking to become one of New Zealand’s youngest ever MPs. The newly formed electorate covers from Ōtaki down to the northern suburbs of Porirua City.
