Two of New Zealand’s finest musicians join forces to present a much- anticipated cello and piano recital in Waikanae on Sunday 13 September.
Andrew Joyce (Principal Cellist of the NZSO) and Jian Liu (Head of Piano Studies at the NZ School of Music). They return to Waikanae by popular request after their highly successful duo recital two years ago.
They will perform a variety of works, from the Baroque delights of Frescobaldi and Boccherini to the exotic and rhythmic Spanish folk- songs of Manuel de Falla. The main work on the programme is a deeply expressive late Cello Sonata by Prokofiev, surrounded by two very popular and well-known works – Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise and Arvo Part’s meditative and moving Spiegel im Spiegel.
