Alongside the 7pm concert at Southwards Theatre, Paraparaumu on Wednesday April 15, featuring the return to Kāpiti of renowned singer Tina Cross and her new partner, Australian singer and musician John Bettison, there are also special events at Southwards during the day for Kāpiti youngsters.

The Ronald McDonald Trust provides accommodation in Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington and Christchurch for the families of young children suddenly hospitalised, so that they will be near their children in moments of real need. But each year they need to raise two-thirds of the running costs of these essential facilities. Both the performers and organisers of this event are providing their time and talents towards this most worthy cause.
Bring Cameras Folks for this Next One
Young kids love travelling in old cars, and from 12 mid-day on Wednesday April 15, they get this chance at Southwards. Rides, in fact, in two different cars. And accompanied by sporting stars, including some that Mum and Dad will recall from the past.
In the photo is ex-Kāpiti Mayor Ross Church, with his old-timer. And there will be five more, mainly old American models, driven by Kāpiti’s ‘Gear Jammers’.
Parents are encouraged to bring phones to take photos, and there will also be event cards which include photos, which sporting guests and drivers will be happy to sign.
No pre-bookings. Book at the event.
Then the Matinee
At 2.30 there will be a Variety Concert matinee, with special concession prices. Tickets available from Eventfinda, or they can be purchased at Coastlands.
Bookings may be essential.
If adults want to again hear the beautiful voice of Tina Cross, ex-star of so many musicals such as Cats and The Rocky Horror Show, and the star turn in the now legendary Lady Killers, they need to go to the 7pm show. Local performers Steve Poulton and Carylann Martin and the Crimson Club group will also only be at the evening performance. But the other 13 musical individuals and groups will also grace the matinee.
Performers at both concerts will be our international synthesiser maestro Steve McDonald, African singers and drummers Sam Manzanza and Makasi, local favourites Andrew and Kirsten London, the Big Little Uke Band, local musicians Unity Wara, Jess Deacon, and Michelle Scullion, and dancers from Sweet Dance Studio and Step Out Dance.
