Paekākāriki at its best – experience exciting bands that get the dance floor moving.
The New Things are returning to Paekākāriki after last year’s NZ Music Commission supported tour. Their song Vintage Nerd hit No1 on Bfm.
Radio New Zealand music reviewer, Grant Smithies, called their sound “ace rickety guitar pop like The Raincoats and Look Blue Go Purple” and now they are even more filled-out punk and dancie.
The New Things share the stage with Interlopers who are a unique combo of acoustic guitar, bass and cello with original songs that lean into time-honoured melodic hooks and lyrical wit and wisdom.
Gram Antler is coming along for the show and is the solo project of Poneke singer, bass player and guitarist, Jason Johnson (Ebony Lamb, Marlon Williams, French For Rabbits, Eb & Sparrow).
Reformed choirboy and post-alt-country, Johnson presents Gram Antler as an anachronism, a man unstuck in time, so it goes. The songs aspire to be pop, but seem to congeal into a form that can only be described as Slacker Yacht-Rock.
