Things are hotting up in the Petanque world. It is the start of a very busy season for tournaments. This weekend the Wellington Regional Singles tournament is being held at the Kāpiti Petanque Club.
Marlene Barker from the Kāpiti Petanue Club says over recent months, there has been a real surge of interest in the game and Kāpiti has been fortunate in welcoming new members.
Ms Barker says if you are one of those who are curious, you are very welcome to come along to watch this weekend. The tournament will be played over Saturday and Sunday. Unless the terrain looks like a swimming pool, play will be on. Rain itself does not deter players. She says players don wet weather gear and gumboots and get on with the game.
Ms Barker says there will be some exciting talent on display especially when the finals are played on Sunday afternoon.
You will find the action at the Kāpiti Petanque Club in Aorangi Road, between the Rugby and Cricket Clubs.
