Top musicians for Kapiti Cello and Piano Recital

Acclaimed musicians Andrew Joyce and Jian Liu will be performing in Waikanae

Andrew Joyce and Jian Liu are two of New Zealand’s best-known musicians – Andrew as Principal Cellist of the NZSO and Jian as Acting Head of School and Head of Piano Studies at the New Zealand School of Music.

Both musicians frequently appear as members of various chamber ensembles and are familiar favourites with Waikanae audiences.

The pair are performing in fourteen centres around the country as part of a Chamber Music New Zealand tour. Their wide-ranging programme includes a Sonata by Bach, works by New Zealander Dorothy Buchanan and German/American composer Paul Hindemith, while the highlight of the concert will be Brahms’ magnificent Opus 99 Cello Sonata.

In addition, each of the performers has chosen some music that pays homage to their own heritage – Andrew Joyce, raised in England, has chosen a charming suite of English Folk-Songs by Vaughan Williams while Chinese-born Jian Liu will present an entertaining composition by contemporary Chinese composer Lin Chong.

The concert, at 2.30pm on Saturday 22 June, is in the Waikanae Memorial Hall.

Door sales will be available or tickets can be bought at Waikanae New World and Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach. Further information 022 3455316 or
