Levansa Trio to Perform in Kapiti

The Levasa Trio are performing in Kapiti at Southwards

The Levansa Trio, featuring the brilliant cellist Lev Sivkov, will play for the Waikanae Music Society on Saturday 30 July.  The Levansa Trio was formed for Sivkov’s 2019 New Zealand tour with distinguished New Zealand musicians Andrew Beer (violin) and Sarah Watkins (piano).  Described by the critics as “delightful”, “enrapturing” and “sublime” their 2019 Waikanae concert was a huge success and their return is eagerly awaited.

Lev Sivkov was born in Siberia and moved to Switzerland and Germany to further his studies. He has held positions with the Royal Danish Opera and Zurich Opera in Switzerland and is increasingly active on the international stage as recitalist and concerto soloist.  Lev is a laureate of several international competitions, most notably the prestigious Naumburg Competition in New York and the Isang Yun Competition in Korea.

The programme includes Beethoven’s first piano trio, followed by two brief items: Mozart’s well-known Adagio gets a new treatment from 20th century composer Arvo Pärt and Bach’s Chorales will be “reinvented” by New Zealand composer Reuben Jelleyman. The second half of the concert is devoted to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent piano trio, written in memory of his friend Anton Rubinstein. With its rich textures and wonderful melodies it is possibly the most heartfelt and beautiful elegy ever composed.

Due to storm damage repairs at the Waikanae Memorial Hall this concert has been moved to a new date and venue – Saturday 30 July at the Southward Theatre.   Tickets are available at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach and through the society’s website www.waikanaemusic.org.nz Phone enquiries 021 2517030
