Kāpiti Chamber offers positive community stories

Kāpiti Business – Kāpiti Chamber of Commerce chair Jacinda Thorn.

Kāpiti Chamber of Commerce chair Jacinda Thorn says as we are nearing our first week of lock-down for COVID-19, there are a lot of positive stories coming out of the local community, with people helping each other where possible and staying connected through digital technology. We still have a way to go but we are heading in the right direction to slow the spread of the virus here in New Zealand.
Over the weekend it was released that the COVID-19 wage subsidy scheme has been modified. You can find full the information on https://www.business.govt.nz/
The changes have been made to further support businesses that need to shut down under Alert Level 4 pay workers for an extended period of time.
The modified wage subsidy scheme will support employers and their staff to maintain an employment connection and ensure an income for affected employees, even if the employee is unable to actually work any hours.
Applications for the modified wage subsidy scheme will be open until New Zealand moves down from COVID-19 Alert Level 4. Applications can be made on the Work and Income website https://workandincome.govt.nz/online-services/covid-19/declaration-wage-subsidy.html
The Kāpiti Coast District Council has a dedicated webpage for COVID-19 that contains key information along with links to access further support during this Alert Level 4. You can access this information – here https://www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/
