Guy P. Burns MSW is standing as a candidate for the Raumati-Paekākāariki Ward on the Kāpiti Council.

“I’m an independent candidate for the Raumati/Paekākāariki ward and have a background in Social Work and Community Development.
I’m running for Council to ensure costs for ratepayers are kept down. Council needs to return to providing core services that best meet the needs of ratepayers. At the moment I’m on the Paraparaumu Raumati Community Board. Recently, I highlighted KCDC plans for borrowing money to invest in the financial market; this attention helped Council to adopt a more prudent strategy.

My policies in a nutshell:

Keep costs down for ratepayers

Introduce targeted rates, which is for properties that benefit from KCDC capital works pay a higher rate, compared to those who have no benefit

Align greenhouse gas submissions to central government targets, so as to keep rates down

Introduce speaking time to the beginning of Council meetings

Use referenda for major council decisions

Restore libraries budget (new books) to original level

Build Paekākāariki seawall

Create flood protection for Moa Road, Raumati

Protect Manuka forest near Te Ra School, Raumati South

Phase out farming in QE Park
