Kāpiti murder accused in Court

A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a woman on the Kāpiti Coast on Saturday 17 August.

His case was heard in the Wellington District Court this morning where he was remanded in custody.
The man, accused of murdering Kāpiti woman 45-year-old Irina Scantee, was released from mental health care less than a week before the killing on Saturday night.
The man, who has interim name suppression, was called in the Wellington District Court on Monday morning, where Judge Peter Hobbs remanded him in custody.
Police say the two scene examinations have now been completed.
Detective inspector Darin Thomson says there were multiple witnesses to the attack and Police are working with the families of the victim and the accused.
