Kāpiti – The Little Museum that Could

Kāpiti Coast Museum, the charming museum on Elizabeth Street, Waikanae has joined the big league Museums Aotearoa, but it remains a small gem of a Museum ready to welcome visitors every Friday to Sunday 1-4pm.
You may have never visited this 1907 Heritage Building or never heard of the Museum. Well, you’d be surprised how many haven’t. Yet here you will find so many of the treasures that frame our history, tell us about our forebears and just plain delight with their presence here in the 21st century.
From the tiny Nita Port Schoolroom to the first switchboard at the Waikanae Post Office, books full of useful research for genealogists and some of the fashions of yesteryear you will find something that speaks to you, that shows your children and grandchildren how things were. Musicians can have a go on the pretty parlour organ, listen to the old songs; photographers admire the many early photographs.
This is an excellent way to spend some time in another era at the Kāpiti Coast Museum, Your Museum.
