Kāpiti Councillor Appeals Conviction

Kāpiti Councillor David Scott’s barristers have lodged an appeal against a conviction recorded against him in the Wellington District Court last month on a charge of indecently assaulting a senior staff member after she alleged he rubbed his genitals against her at a morning tea last year.
Cr Scott, 72, had pleaded not guilty to the charge and says it is now up to the judges and barristers in the Appeal Court.
The appeal is likely to take place in January or February of next year. According to Local Government New Zealand Cr Scott will remain a councillor until the appeal process goes through.
Kāpiti mayor K Gurunathan told KCNews the current situation regarding Cr Scott’s status as a councillor remains and he will be talking with the Chief Executive this evening to discuss the matter.
