Friday Rail Strike Cancelled – Breaking News

It will be business as usual on Friday for commuters from Kāpiti and the rest of the region with planned strike action being averted. Greater Wellington Regional Council is welcoming the cancellation of Friday’s rail strike, following the withdrawal of industrial action by the Rail and Maritime Transport Union.
Cr Barbara Donaldson, Chair of Greater Wellington’s Sustainable Transport Committee, says: “We are pleased and relieved on behalf of Metlink customers that the strike has been called off, and rail services will run as normal on Friday.
“More than 30,000 journeys are made on Metlink trains every day and this would have been very disruptive to many customers’ travel plans. Since we were advised of the strike late on Wednesday, we’ve been putting out information so people knew about the likely disruption and could plan their travel. We will now work to let customers know that trains are running as usual.
“I think everyone who usually goes by train will be pleased Friday’s strike isn’t happening, and we hope the parties will continue to work together in the best interests of Metlink customers.”
