The proposal
The new group’s aim would be to represent the views of residents who are concerned about climate change with an agreed set of positions on issues and actions relevant to the Kāpiti Coast District.

This would include but not be limited to cycle paths, electric vehicle and e-bike charging, solar power and tree planting, local food and clean waterways – things that would make the Kāpiti Coast an even better place to live, make us happier and more prosperous and help the climate too.

This group would lobby local politicians and give input to decisions, such as the upcoming Long Term Plan. We’d praise good decisions and call out bad ones. We’d focus on achievable short and medium term actions that they can take. We’d also promote inspiring visions of the future to explain to everyone what we’re all about.

I have been working with Lynn Sleath and John Baldwin of Cycle Action Kāpiti, and we have arranged a petition and a bike ride in support of the PP2O shared path. The bike ride is this Saturday afternoon, 18 March. Details of both below. I will use this event to promote Low Carbon Kāpiti and take details of people who are interested. If you can make this event too/instead, that’s great. I’ll be riding, leaving my place at 12:30pm.

Show your support for a shared path between Peka Peka and Ōtaki.

Riders – meet at the entrance to the new pathway beside the expressway on Te Moana Road Waikanae at 1.00 pm on Saturday 18 March. From there we will take a leisurely 6 km ride north up the pathway to Peka Peka to meet and discuss the campaign. If you can’t make the bike ride, then please join the group outside Harrisons Garden Centre at 2.00 pm.

You can also show your support by signing the petition here: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/extend-the-shared-path-from-peka-peka-to-otaki
