Voters wanted change

Dear Editor

When the voters throughout the Horowhenua voted for change they didn’t think the old guard would gang up on the Mayor or his campaign promises. They are using the excuse that they have no faith or trust in his decision to appoint his own deputy.

It was obvious right from day one that a new Mayor, no matter who he or she was, would have trouble disclosing the rights and wrongs of the previous council’s decisions.

Unfortunately, the community’s trust placed in the old guard by voting them in – has been abused. They could not even agree on who they wanted to replace the Mayor’s choice of Deputy, therefore it looks like we have a Council that will not be able to make the right decisions for the future of our District. The only way we can move forward now is to have Independent Commissioners come in and run our Council for the benefit of the people and not suffer at the hands of these arrogant and self-aggrandising Councillors.

Why should we have a Deputy Mayor from the Waiopehu Ward when he can’t even look after the Waitarere Wastewater Consent in his Ward? It expired nine years ago.
