Kāpiti Run for Youth launches sixth year

Over the last six years the Web Genius Kāpiti Run for Youth (KR4Y) has raised more than $63,000 to support youth charities in Kāpiti.

At the conclusion of KR4Yon Sunday 8 November 2015 the planning committee made a decision to move the event to Sunday 19 March 2017. Richard Calkin of Web Genius explains, “the rationale behind this decision was to position the event so it sits within daylight savings (and good weather) and to move from the traditionally busy period of November and preparations for Christmas, and many school and charitable fundraisers going on. The other significant game changer has been the desire to position at a good time for Schools to participate, particularly at a College level so students can participate and achieve NCEA credits.”

Funds raised in 2015 ($13,303) were distributed to Youth Quest and participating fundraising partners; being Activate Youth, Girl Guiding Kāpiti, Kāpiti Basketball Association, Kāpiti Youth Support, Kenakena School Boys Mentoring Group, No 49 (Kāpiti) Squadron Air Training Corps, Paraparaumu Beach School and Paraparaumu Playcentre.

Richard goes on to say, “we want to push the amount we raise in 2017 to be over $20,000 if we can so we will be approaching more local businesses to help in our efforts. We will be asking them to become a Gold ($500), Silver ($250) or Bronze ($100) sponsor. Business groups are in our sights as it’s a wonderful team building exercise and an easy way to keep fit while giving back to your local community.”

Importantly, registrations are now open to participate in KR4Y. It’s easy to register online either as an individual or as a group. There are four options to choose from: 12km walk, 6km walk, 12km run and a 6km run with staggered starts between 10am and 11.30am.

Campaign Manager, Helene Judge says, “we are excited for another big year as we launch KR4Y for 2017. The objective of the event is quite simple, to have fun with others on the beach while doing something worthwhile for an important part of our community, youth. We know the money we raise will
be used wisely by Youth Quest, as the main benefactor, and it will help them to achieve more good work within our community through their operations and mentoring programmes.”

“We are also encouraging more Fundraising Partners to register. By participating they will receive back 40% of what they individually fundraise with the other 40% going to Youth Quest and 20% going towards event logistics”, says Richard. There is a toolkit available online to maximise the fundraising experience and everyone has access to Helene who will guide and motivate along the way.

It’s free to register with every participant needing to achieve a minimum of $20 sponsorship which can be done easily online. Just imagine if 500 people register in 2017 and they all raise $50 each, WOW, that would be $25,000 raised go to www.kapitirunforyouth.co.nz
