Unique e-book Showcases Outstanding Local Businesses

Business Kāpiti Horowhenua, who organise and run the hugely successful Electra Kāpiti Horowhenua Business Awards, have launched an e-book showcasing some of the outstanding local businesses to have featured in the Awards over the last six years.

The e-book, thought to be the first of its kind in New Zealand, was launched at the Business Awards gala evening on Friday, 9 October and is now available for (free) download from: www.bkh.org.nz.

Business Kāpiti Horowhenua Chair, Mark Ternent says the e-book is the realisation of a dream the Board has had for a number of years. “For quite some time we’ve been saying we’ve got access to some amazing local business stories and that someone should be telling them. As a region we should be doing more to recognise and celebrate our own businesses many of them are truly world class. By sharing valuable business lessons we hope to help other local businesses to grow and succeed.

“Earlier this year I sat down with one of our supporting sponsors, Stephen Leslie from (marketing agency) The Perfect Angle, and we worked on a plan to turn the dream into a reality, and here we are now.

“I think we’ve produced an awesome publication. It’s well written and visually very well laid out, and most importantly, it’s full of very valuable lessons, points and gems for business people.”

The 2015 edition of the e-book (titled: “Passion and Purpose: Real-life Kiwi Business Stories”) features twelve separate case studies six are former Business of the Year winners dating back to 2009, while the other six were strong Finalists and category winners from the 2013 and 2014 Awards.

Mr Ternent says the intention is to add further case studies each year to create a valuable business resource for “business people on the up, people getting into business, and students of entrepreneurship”.

The initial feedback suggests the e-book may well be a New Zealand first. “From what we can tell, there’s no other publication like this. We’ve already had early interest in the e-book from two prestigious national educational institutions who are considering using it as a resource for their business/entrepreneurship post graduate students.”

“This means that some of the great businesses we have here in the Kāpiti-Horowhenua region may well attract national, and even international, attention. What a fantastic advertisement for our region and for local business development.

“On behalf of the Board I’d like to thank the case study authors, Chris Ineson (Drivingforces) and Stephen Leslie (The Perfect Angle). We’d also like to recognise the work that Stephen’s company has done in designing and producing such a high quality and professional looking publication.”
