Kāpiti Coast duo finalists in Welly Awards

Two of Kāpiti’s most dedicated environmentalists have been named as finalists in the Environment section of the Wellingtonian of the Year Awards.
Known as the Welly’s the Awards are presented in Arts, Business, Community Service, Education, Environment, Government, Science & Technology, Sport, and Youth categories.

The Awards will take place at a gala ceremony on 19 November at Te Papa.

Kāpiti’s two finalists in the Environment section are:

Ann Evans
Ann Evans is a Whareroa Guardian, out in all weathers weeding, planting and inspiring others. Planting 45,000 plants in eight years, Ann and numerous volunteers have restored Whareroa Farm Reserve for nature and recreation (or fun).

John Lancashire
During John’s 10 year Chairmanship of the Friends of Queen Elizabeth Park over 1/2 million dollars has been raised from competitive grants to allow Friends’ volunteers to restore streams, protect and extend a rare dune forest remnant, establish new wetlands, protect dunes (altogether over 200,000 plants established) and target improved biodiversity.
