Lions Club of Kāpiti – Under New Management

The new Board of the Lions Club of Kāpiti has been elected with Brian Daw taking over as President for the current year assisted by a Board of six Directors.
Each year the club organises the Kāpiti Sportspersons of the Year Awards which has been a major event on the Kāpiti Coast for the past nine years, and also makes a sizeable grant available to young athletes.
The club is a major participant in the annual Book Fair which raises thousands of dollars for organisations such as Life Flight Trust, Wellington Free Ambulance, Mary Potter Hospice and others, all of which are so important for the well-being of the Kāpiti District.
Other recent fundraising projects enabled the club to provide the main clock at the Aquatic Centre and an examination table for the Kāpiti Health Centre.
Mr Daw says they have also been able to assist organisations such as Age Concern, Life Education Trust, Kena Kena School, Kāpiti Youth Support, Kāpiti Scouts, Whareroa Guardians Trust, all of which have their unique needs. And we were also able to help with the major refurbishment of the Ocean Road Senior Citizens Hall.
Mr Daw says that Lions do a lot of great work for Kāpiti, much of which goes unseen, and unlike many service organisations today the Kāpiti Lions Club is in good shape. However “we are always on the lookout for people who want to help their community and the Lions door is always open.”
In recognition of their work towards the health and well-being of the community the Kāpiti Lions Club has been elected as a finalist in this year’s Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards.
