We are now taking registrations for our autumn community social and educational programme at Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre. Come along, learn something new, meet new people and have fun. Numbers are limited bookings essential to avoid disappointment.

Cake Decorating Catherine Lewin
Learn all about icings and their uses, plus how to get a smooth
cake. In this hands-on 4-week course, you will learn how
to cover a cake from start to finish, construct a lovely large
anemone sugar-paste flower, and finish the bottom border of
your cake to create a beautiful finished piece. Basic ingredients
and equipment will be provided.

Ukulele for Beginners (Adults) Tim Smith
Learn the basics of this popular, fun and easy-to-play
instrument. Bring your own ukulele.

Already grasped the basics increase your knowledge of chords
and the fretboard and practice your skills. Bring your own

Button and Bead Brooches Val Roberts
Learn to make affordable but beautiful brooches with buttons
and beads. All materials and equipment will be provided,
however if you have special/favourite buttons you’d like to use
bring them along to the workshop.

Cheese Making Hands On Workshop – Alexis Murtie

Making your own Halloumi and Ricotta cheese is easy you
just need someone to guide you through it! All ingredients and
recipes provided. Also includes cheese tasting throughout and
cheese made by you to take home!

Building a worm farm is great fun and an excellent way to
educate children about our natural world. Feed your waste to
those hungry munching worms and make great compost.

Floral Art Florence Carmichael, Elva Jamieson & Helen
Potter

Learn how to design and construct fabulous floral art
arrangements for your table top. Our fully qualified tutors will
show you how to create five spectacular arrangements including
a horizontal, vertical, diagonal, a Hogarth Curve and a traditional
Mass design, and then they will assist you to choose your
materials and make them yourself. Bring a pen and notebook.

Singing Workshop Fiona Bee
Have you ever said “but I can’t sing”? Has anyone ever taught you
how? Learn some basic techniques in a fun group setting with one
of Kāpiti’s top contemporary singing teachers. Open to all.

Hand-tied Bouquet Workshop – Helen Potter
Learn how to construct a beautiful hand-tied bouquet. Please
bring some main flowers e.g. 10 Roses or 5 fully out Asiatic lilies,
smaller flowers e.g. Alstromeria, Erica, spray Chrysanthemums, a
small ball of knitting wool, good scissors, a stapler and a plastic
working sheet for your table. Assorted greenery, cellophane,
wrapping paper and ribbon will be provided.

Harmony Singing Workshop Fiona Bee
Do you enjoy singing but wouldn’t know a harmony line if it hit
you? Perhaps you have sung in a choir before but couldn’t “hear”
your part? Come along to this introductory workshop to learn the
basics of part singing in a fun and safe environment. No previous
experience required, all ages welcome.

Decoupage a Box Hands On Workshop – Val Roberts
Decoupage is a fun and easy way to decorate just about any
object. At this hands-on workshop you will learn and apply the
art of decoupage by decorating a shoe size storage box to store
your treasures or to give as a gift. All materials and equipment
will be provided. Please bring your own scissors.

Make Your Pasta Hands On Workshop – Alexis Murti

Learn how to make your own fresh Pasta (and Lasagne sheets)
with pasta sauce. Following a demonstration you will make your
own dough. While the dough rests Alexis will demonstrate
how to make pasta sauce and you will enjoy an antipasto
platter. All ingredients are provided and you will take your own
pasta home for dinner with a sample of the pasta sauce!
