Council urges schools and sports clubs to attend sports funding forum

Kāpiti schools and sports clubs are being encouraged to attend a sports funding forum, being held on March 2, to find out what money is on offer and how they can access it.

The forum is being run by Sport Wellington, which administers the KiwiSport fund, set up in 2009 to increase the participation of school age children in sport and active recreation.

Kāpiti District Council Sports Facilities Co-ordinator Claire Anderson says the fund is available for schools and sports clubs, as well as anyone in the community who would like to provide sporting opportunities for school age children.

“I really urge our local sports clubs and organisations to go along to the forum to learn more about the fund because it provides some wonderful opportunities for advancing and promoting sport in our district.”

The forum will be held on Friday March 2 at 7.00pm at Kāpiti Community Centre in Paraparaumu. Claire will be attending and, as somebody new to the Council, is looking forward to meeting local clubs, schools, and sporting organisations in the area.

The forum relates to funding available in March but Claire says further opportunities to access funding will be available in June and September.

“KiwiSport has invested $94,297 in the Kāpiti Coast District supporting active recreation opportunities for almost three and a half thousand children. This money really makes a difference to local sport and we are really grateful for this funding being made available. “
