Peter Zander writes in the Readers Write (Kāpiti News 15/9) indicating the Expressway is a done deal.
It may pay to do some further research into this matter.
The motorway through the sandhills on the Kāpiti Coast was proposed 50 years ago and does not reflect the changes in the area (urban development) and prior to Bastion Point.
The designation of the motorway was changed to a local road around 10 years ago and further development of the current SH1 was proposed.
The following still need to be completed before any work is undertaken for the Expressway:
– detailed design (mid 2011)
– application for designation and resource consents – likely to be “called in” by the Minister to be heard before a Board of Enquiry
– hearings and decisions. (Early 2012)
The hearing and decision have not been held or made. So how can you (or any one else) say “It is a done deal”.
Popular public opinion is not for the Expressway. Only 32% expressed support for the “Western Link” Expressway and more are confessing they voted this option in the mistaken belief they were voting for the 2 lane local Western Link road.
Maybe we can use Peter’s insight and declare the next election a done deal and simply appoint a Labour government.
I suggest that he accepts that we live in democracy and let the due process be completed.
I’ll even buy you a beer when the Expressway from McKays crossing to Peka Peka is officially opened (but I expect you will be waiting a long time).
