Soccer by the sea

Win, lose or draw its hard to imagine a better place to play soccer than Paekākāariki’s Campbell Park in brilliant sunshine.

As it turned out there was a win and a loss but that seemed secondary at this early stage of will be a long season in the Kāpiti/Horo Division 1 championship.

This time the win went to the home side with Peter Haardstaff scoring twice as Paekākāariki took the match 4-1 over rivals Waikanae.

In a very close first half the honours were mostly even until Paekākāariki nailed a header to take a 2-1 advantage to the break.

Both teams created plenty of chances in the second half but it was Paekākāariki who finished better, adding two more goals.

Waikanae coach Trevor Prescott said the game was played in a great spirit.

“It was a stunning day ay a great venue. Not the perfect start for us but it’s early days. Paekākāariki made the most of their chances and deserved the win,” he said.
