Skate Park gets thumbs up in Paekākāariki

Former Community Board member and Paekākāariki personality Betty Perkins is a patient woman who was finally rewarded with the opening of the skate park facility at Campbell Park today.

Community Board chair Adrian Webster told a large crowd that Betty began advocating for a skate park when her son Andrew was 7. “Andrew is now 46, so Betty gets to see her grandchildren use the Park instead.”

Mr Webster paid tribute to the huge effort put in by Board members Helen Keivom and Janet Holborow then told the assembled children “This is your place, your community board will keep this place safe for you and your community.”

The skate park was designed and built by Tom Smithers and is a superb addition to Paekākāariki’s recreational area.
