Talking books get boost from Kāpiti Lions

Kāpiti Lions Club President Gary Benton, has presented the Kāpiti Coast District Libraries with a cheque for $1500.00 to be spent on Talking Books for people who are sight impaired.
“This is part of an ongoing commitment to the Blind Foundation by Lions Clubs throughout the world for more than 80 years,” he said. “The fundraising initiative was inspired by Helen Keller and continues to benefit the everyday lives of people with sight impairment all these years later.”
Councillor Hilary Wooding, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Libraries, said, “This donation will let the District Libraries purchase a greater range of talking books for the community and is very much appreciated.
“The talking books purchased have been distributed throughout all three district libraries and are now available for borrowing.”
The Kāpiti Coast District Libraries have over 750 sets of talking books, including a selection of talking books on loan from the National Library. These are rotated on a monthly basis which ensures fresh new titles are available for borrowing.
