No fear of questions

Editor

In response to Jamie Brookes, I can assure everyone that I have no fear of being asked questions by the public.
My objection was being told by the Chairs of two Community Boards that they had formulated their own policies, sought my position on their policies and that their “advocacy role includes advising folk which candidates most strongly support the policies we have identified as besr (sic) serving our communities’ interests.”
Questions put to candidates by independent media and forums, such as the Grey Power and Kāpiti Chamber of Commerce Meet the Candidates meetings, are unbiased and transparent. Policies made by elected Council officials, put to candidates for response and then those elected officials take it on themselves to advise the public on who to vote for is very dodgy at best. I will campaign on my policies, not those advised to me by elected officials.
I have received a great deal of support for the action Tony Lloyd and I took, with many people expressing their disgust at how the “current lot” operate.
I will be attending the public Meet the Candidate Meetings, will be participating in the media election profiles and questions and also welcome questions directly from the public. To that end, my e-mail address is [email protected].
I believe in democracy and transparency, and that you, the voters, are more than able to judge me without the biased input of current elected officials.
