The Homes for Good Trust is conducting a survey to look at the attitudes and thoughts of private
landlords, who currently rent property in the area between Raumati South and Waikanae North,
regarding renting to tenants who are over 65.
According to the 2023 Census (Statistics New Zealand, 2024) 16.7 % (1953) of over 65s living in the Central Kāpiti area (Waikanae to Raumati South) were renting and the majority of those tenants were renting privately. Further to this, it is predicted that the percentage of over 65s renting by 2048 is likely to double (Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission, 2024).
Private landlords form an important part of the housing infrastructure and with Kāpiti having a higher than average number of Seniors, Homes for Good is seeking to understand how its future clientele are perceived by landlords.
The survey closes on Friday 12th December 2026 after which the results will be professionally analysed and publicly reported in February 2026. Participants can access the survey at www.homesforgood.nz/home
