Candidate Statement – Paul Baggott

Candidate – Paraparaumu Ward

Paul Baggott, candidate Paraparaumu Ward

“I have lived here for 15 years with my wife, who works in the disability sector, and our two sons.

“I am a seafarer with nearly 40 years’ experience in the NZ Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and ferry companies here and in the UK. Plus nearly 20 years as a Volunteer Coastguard crew member.

“I’m currently President (Hon) of the Merchant Navy Association Wellington and organised a Maritime festival and careers expo.

“As a councillor, I’m committed to supporting local employment and attracting new businesses to Paraparaumu. Kāpiti is rich in talent, yet most of our residents work outside the district. By growing local job opportunities, we can improve the work-life balance for our people and stimulate wider economic growth across our community.

“I believe we need to look at rates reform and take a common-sense approach to council’s core functions.”

All candidates are offered the opportunity to submit a profile and photo for the position they are standing for.
