Popular Horizons Regional Councillor Sam Ferguson is back on familiar turf in Kāpiti and will be standing for the Greater Wellington Regional Council at the upcoming elections.

Having moved back to Kāpiti he says his six year experience puts him in a strong position to advance Kāpiti’s interests at the Regional table.

“When it comes to voting, making an informed decision makes a difference, after all you’re choosing someone to represent your values and your community,” says Mr Fergusson, who chairs the Passenger Transport Committee at Horizons.

He says this experience will benefit Kāpiti and areas like Ōtaki and Te Horo which are poorly serviced by public transport.

“The possibility of a Kāpiti person chairing this committee at Greater Wellington could become a reality. We need a modern and reliable rail and bus network to support our people and our local economy.”

Mr Ferguson says ensuring Council is for the people, is connected with our community, and understands our aspirations is at the heart of what drives him.

“Kāpiti residents have the opportunity to vote for one candidate to represent them and the future aspirations of Kāpiti. Our streams and rivers should be healthy biodiversity habitats that help protect us from extreme weather events,” says Mr Ferguson.

He says voting for him is a positive vote for change and appointing a leader for Kāpiti who is driven by a passion for making a difference. He shows up, listens and will advocate for what truly matters in this community. During his six years at Horizons Regional Council he has maintained a 100% attendance record at council meetings for this duration, showing a strong and reliable presence in a role serving his community.

Thriving nature is a key concern for the people of Kāpiti. Sam says he offers integrated thinking and sensible approaches to how we protect our waterways to ensure they are healthy for all of us to enjoy.

“I grew up in Kāpiti, I know the region and I know how Council works, and I have the experience to help shape Kāpiti’s future.”

Mr Ferguson is becoming a familiar figure and is already active in our community and is putting in the effort to say hello and have conversations with as many locals as possible. He is reaching out through community markets, street corner meetings and door knocking.
