ThinkTech Kapiti – the future has arrived

There was a time when many businesses said all that tech stuff doesn’t affect me, I sell shoes, or fix cars, or dig ditches, or do plumbing, electrical work, shear sheep… guess what, it does now.

The AI revolution isn’t coming, it is already here and whatever business you are in or would like to be in, this is a gamechanger.

Kāpiti is hosting a TechWeek 2025 event designed to answer many of the questions you may have about the future of technology and the impact on your business.

ThinkTech Kāpiti has bought together many of the industry leaders for a symposium at Southward Museum on Wednesday 21 May (Reg details below).

Scott Houston

Tech expert Scott Houston says the day is a curated mix of real-world insights, emerging technologies, and practical strategies designed to challenge assumptions and spark fresh ideas.

“Expect dynamic talks, panels, and networking across topics like startup funding in smaller geographies, scaling AI for operations, cyber security in 2025, export-ready mindsets, and building connected communities through data and infrastructure.”

Houston will be MC for the event and has significant experience and success in advanced technology.

“I see Kāpiti as an ideal setting for developing the Tech sector. We already have a rapidly developing Tech Cluster and our strategy is to attract more people here to share their ideas and visions. We would like to see Kāpiti be the Silicon Valley for Wellington,” says Houston.

TechWeek is a nation-wide initiative, facilitated in Wellington by CreativeHQ on behalf of NZ Tech.

The sessions (full programme link below) offer a very wide range of topics including the currently debated issues around cyber safety and children, with a cyber session for parents and caregivers. Some schools in New Zealand have had training on what the risks are but the sessions haven’t taught them how to actually configure the devices which is a risk. The session on 19 May tends to this.

From global exits to ethical AI, cyber threats to smart cities, ThinkTech Kāpiti brings together bold thinkers, tech founders and industry leaders for a full-day event showcasing innovation from Kāpiti and beyond.

Whether you’re in tech, business, government, or just curious about the future of innovation in Aotearoa, ThinkTech Kāpiti is your front-row seat to what’s next.

Scott Houston sees the future as exciting and challenging with plenty of big questions.

“I have been a CTO and CEO at technology companies for the last 15 years, I have decided to take a break and do some research into AI and more specifically Artificial General Intelligence. How far away is the ‘Singularity’ (when computers become sentient) who is working on this, what are the risks and what will it take to get there,” says Houston.

ThinkTech Kāpiti seems like an ideal place to find out more.
