The Paekākāriki School Rainbow Gala & Plant Sale is set to return this Labour Weekend, with plants, food, music, stalls, and games for the whole whānau.
The Gala is the school’s main fundraising event, and is part of the village-wide Paekākāriki Pride celebrations that occur all weekend long.
Past Gala’s have raised money for a desperately needed senior playground, a project that was completed in Term 3 of this year. Using local designers and builders, as well as help from a team of superstar students, the playground incorporates natural elements, wooden platforms, ropes, and climbing nets, creating an original, environmentally-friendly, and creative play space for the lucky students.
However, there are still plenty of school projects that need to be completed. This year the Gala will be raising funds to do-up and maintain the school pool.
As a seaside community, water safety is a priority – we need a safe place for our tamariki to learn how to swim.
The Rainbow Gala & Plant Sale will feature all the classics that punters have come to love – delicious food, amazing coffee, tea rooms and baking, and a classic BBQ with meat and vege sausages. There will be candy floss for the sweet tooths, and heaps of cool stalls with trinkets, clothes, snacks, art and jewellery for sale.
There will also be some fabulous spots to get ready for the Pride Parade later that day – face painting, glitter tattoos, and rainbow hair stalls! Kids and adults alike can get their rainbow on and embrace the celebrations. Plus heaps of fun stuff for kids to do – obstacle courses, bouncy castles, giant slides, sandpit digs, colour runs and more.
Paekākāriki is known for its abundance of creative talent, and that will be on display with live music throughout the day – and don’t forget the plants! Over fifteen types of tomatoes, plus fruit trees and berries, salad vegetables, pumpkins, zucchinis and herbs – everything you need for a summer garden. There will also be native plants, grasses, ground covers, succulents and more.
