Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Underhill, Wellington CIB, says an investigation is underway following the discovery of human remains at an address in Ōwhiro Bay on Sunday (22 June).
On Monday afternoon a Police team were in the area after a homeowner located remains in his garden.
Detective Underhill says the remains have been identified as human, and enquiries will look to determine how old these remains are, followed by a formal identification process, which may take some time.
Anyone with information that may assist as to the identity of the remains and how they came to be at the location is encouraged to contact Police via 105, either over the phone or online.
