Kāpiti’s comedy fans are in for a treat when Comedy on the Coast returns to the Kāpiti Playhouse on
Saturday, June 21.
The popular live stand-up showcase has quickly become a staple on the local arts calendar, offering an eclectic mix of professional comics and homegrown talent.
Headlining the evening is rising star Kajun Brooking, originally from Hastings. His breakout solo show Kajun Brooking Escapes the Hood earned rave reviews at this year’s New Zealand International Comedy Festival. Known for his honest, heartfelt storytelling and sharp comedic timing, Brooking brings the voice of his community to stages around the country — and now, to Kāpiti.
Hosting the night is Wellington’s own Neil Thornton, a seasoned comedian and crowd favourite who brings warmth, wit, and a fearless sense of humour to the MC role. Thornton, originally from the United States, has become a mainstay in the New Zealand comedy scene, known for his insightful material on everything from politics to pop culture.
Joining them on stage are four other acts, promising a night of variety and laughs:
- Keegan Thomas, whose energetic performances and Gen Z absurdism made waves with his
recent NZICF show Boy Band Brain. - Lily Catastrophe, a boundary-pushing performer who toured her acclaimed solo show Bottom
Surgery across the NZ Fringe, Dunedin Fringe, Nelson Fringe, and the New Zealand
International Comedy Festival. Blending burlesque, comedy, and raw, fearless storytelling, her
performances have been celebrated for their honesty and exuberance. - Annie Harper, Kāpiti’s very own Naughty Nanny, serving up cheeky insights and maternal
mischief. - Marc Hamilton, an unfiltered, high-energy comic who doesn’t hold back.
Whether you’re a comedy die-hard or just after a good night out, this show promises something for
everyone.
